Army Wrestling Update - Iowa Trip

Army Wrestling Update - Iowa Trip

West Point, NY | December 1, 2021

Welcome back Black Knight Nation

We recently completed our trip to Iowa and we wound up having an unexpected stop along the way. As I'm sure you have heard by now, America's Team became the darling of the wrestling world by stepping in and wrestling the Hawkeyes on Sunday at Carver when Oregon State ran into travel issues. Our boys got the most out of this trip and this week has been making adjustments based on the data we have collected thus far. It has been a bruising schedule. It doesn't get much easier.

Overall I am encouraged by the attitudes and the fight our boys have shown in duals against 3 premier programs. We are going into some of the toughest places to compete and winning bouts. We need to win more. The athletes have seen what it takes to get to the next level and we will continue to work toward the goal of winning duals and getting guys on the podium at EIWA and in Detroit.

Some individual highlights

OG (149) won both his bouts, including a major decision at Carver. He continues to get better and wrestling All Americans and beating them is a testament to that.

JT (197) picked up a nice win at Carver

At 165 Dalton Harkins won his dual debut in Ames and then battled though 6 bouts in the open the next day.

Captain Ben Sullivan returned to the mat and after a tough start bounced back for a thrilling OT victory at HWT in Ames.

We also got a Cyclone Open title out of Matt Williams at 149 and had two runner-ups in Deck at 149 and Lukez at 157. Full results link below. There is little doubt that we have great depth and many of these young guys are getting great opportunities in the Open competitions.

Harold Nichols Cyclone Open (trackwrestling.com)

Speaking of Cyclone opens, we will have athletes competing in one this Sunday at Centenary in New Jersey. Hope to see some of you there.

We were fortunate enough to have the Stalemates Show chronicle a lot of our trip to Iowa and you can check out some of that coverage here
