We got 4 guys through, and I will highlight them for you here. Before I do so, I will let you guys know that Gunner is ok. He became ill after the first bout and the tourney doctor felt it was serious enough to send him to the ER. He was discharged later in the evening but was nowhere near close to being able to wrestle. On to our auto bids.
149- Trae McDaniel- Easterns Champ! What a great event. Trae is at his best when he is wrestling like a bully and letting the fur fly. We saw that in his last two bouts. We hope to see the fearless risktaker in Philly, because that's what it takes.
125- Chuck is consistent and his dominant performance in the semis got his ticket punched. Just a great example of everything we value in our program. Toughness over talent, and iron will and belief in what we are doing.
174 - So proud of Dalton. After a tough semi loss, with his career on the line- he came up with the best wrestling of his career and two bonus point wins. No one wanted it more!
HWT- Brady Colbert can get to the legs on anyone in the nation. He did it when he needed to. A gritty performance by a PLEBE down a TD in a do or die match and he dominated the last 6 minutes of his wrestle-in bout.
With four secured, we now wait to see the fates of our other guys. We have hope, because the system is designed to account for the regular season, and we did our job all year long. We expect to be notified of at-large bids on Tuesday. Gunner, Wolfgang and Berginc are our most likely candidates to receive a bid. We promise to keep you posted.
