Go Green's Notes from Post

Go Green's Notes from Post

More to come as we recap a great season, but here are my thoughts to share from over the weekend.

First of all, the quote is Einstein.  There's a reason we call him Einstein.  Carry on. Ah, the blood round.  Aptly named.  Perhaps we should add words like sweat, and toil, and tears to it.  It's a tough watch.  But it's a glorious watch. Einstein nailed it, because for every celebration and every heartbreak you see, there is a whole team that is connected to it.  An AT in corner.  A parent in the stands.  A professor who went the extra mile.  A wealthy NIL donor wink wink.  We are all connected in this crazy little wrestling world and we see these kids rise and fall together.  It's brutal.

I'm headed back over as a spectator today, and that's tough.  But there were more mountain tops than valleys this year and we can be proud of that with the gift of perspective.  I'll be excited to watch my peers celebrate and commiserate with those who came up a little short.  We are all in this together. But man, that round can break a dream like no other.  Utterly and thoroughly.  It's tough watching grown, strong men in tears as the realization that their career is over hits them.  It's usually out of the eyes of the public.  But it will make you pause. But here's the thing.  If you've done your job as a coach, these kids will mend, and they will be- as Papa says- strong at the broken places.  To be strong at your broken places is vital.

No one wants to hear it today- but I'm stubborn enough to tell you anyway.  When we do it right, our guys walk out of disappointing endings ready to run to new beginnings, and with an understand of how connected we all are and how that's what really matters.
