Go Green's Notes from Post- Scuffle Champs

Go Green's Notes from Post- Scuffle Champs

Big News!

A great way to start 2025 for America's Team.  Southern Scuffle Champions!

It's tough to win an individual event at this level and it's even tougher when your primary focus is still on individual development.  We moved a guy up for this event as we explore options for the stretch run.  We also didn't get a ton of contribution from two of our most dependable guys.  That is going to happen in a long season.  And we still won the event.  This speaks to our depth.  But more importantly, it speaks to the fact that we are one of the few true TEAMS left in college sports.

Recap

125 Chuck didn't have his best event, but we aren't worried.  We know who he is and he will be back.

133 Ethan tried to go despite being under the weather and it didn't work.  Again- it is a long season.  We will be fine here.

141 Two on the podium.  Rich Treanor got 3rd and looked like the guy we know he can be.  A huge performance in the bronze match- getting bonus.  Braden fighting for 5th was awesome as well.

149 no entry

157 Dakota picking up bonus for 5th was a great moment.  He knows he has more to give once he figures a few things out.

165 Gunner just brings effort in every position in every match.  Scuffle Champ.  His trajectory is unlimited and he is wrestling very well.

174 Dalton had an up and down event, but he is finding his way to the legs a lot more, including the OT takedown against last year's NCAA semifinalist and AA.

184 Nice college debut for Jake Gilfoil.  He wrestles hard and is very physical.  Scuffle podium in his first event!

197 Wolfgang continues to blossom, upsetting the #1 seed and making the bronze match.  Unheralded out of HS- he is the epitome of our brand of wrestling.

HWT The Twin Towers finished 2nd and 3rd.  Lucas looks as healthy as he has all year and wrestled his style throughout the event.  Brady beat a very good NCAA qualifier TWICE and avenged his loss against the Morgan State wrestler from a few weeks ago.  Our heavyweight stable is the envy of most teams- and it is only going to get deeper and better.

I also need to mention we got wins from everyone this weekend.  Nain, Caleb, Bubba, Cooper, Andrew, Reid all got their hands raised and showed they can compete with anyone in the nation.

It's easy to say that we didn't accomplish much by winning an intersession event and that all our focus should be on the NCAA tourney and there is some truth in that.  Our sport is wired that way.  But every journey has mileposts along the way and the boys showed two important qualities in Chattanooga.  Persistence and resilience.

We are grateful for the opportunity to compete and thrilled to be bringing home Scuffle Gold!
