Academic Achievement Awards
Ben Pasiuk and Ryan Chauvin of the Army West Point wrestling team received the Academic Achievement Award from the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association.
The duo represents the Black Knights on an esteemed 105-member list that celebrates work in the classroom and performances on the mat. In order to qualify for an EIWA All-Academic award, an athlete must have posted a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20 and participated in the EIWA tournament, or achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and qualified for the NCAA tournament through the EIWA (NQ).
Chauvin (125 lbs.), a business management major, landed the honor with his 3.28 cumulative GPA. The junior, who has now received the accolade in two-straight seasons, competed in eight of the team's nine duals during the 2021-22 campaign.
An engineering management major, Pasiuk (174 lbs.) holds a cumulative GPA of 3.21 and has now received the EIWA Academic Achievement Award in back-to-back seasons. As a sophomore, he wrestled his way to a 20-7 record while claiming third place at the EIWA Championship and qualifying for the NCAA Championship for the second time in his young career.
Pasiuk was additionally honored by the National Wrestling Coaches Association as a 2021-2022 Division I Scholar All-American. Pasiuk also earned NWCA Scholar All-American status in the 2020-2021 season.
“On behalf of the NWCA Board of Directors, It is my honor to recognize these exceptional athletes and teams,” NWCA Executive Director Mike Moyer said. “Wrestling takes much focus and sacrifice and we are proud to honor these wrestlers for their obvious commitment to their academic pursuits!”
