Go Green's Notes from Post: Go Army Beat navy Edition

Your Boys in Black hit the road this weekend and came home with a victory in the America’s Team vs American University showdown.

We won 8 of 10 bouts to notch a dominant 27-6 win.  Feel free to read the details here

Army Defeats American in Dominating 27-6 Win - Army West Point (goarmywestpoint.com)

It was good to see the guys wrestling aggressively early in bouts and implementing some of the things we have been working on in training.  American came with a game plan and they were a tough out.  I would rather see guys making mistakes being too aggressive at this point in the season and that happened in a couple spots.  But it beats the alternative.

Silent C and Julian got nice wins over EIWA medalists.  We got bonus from captains Pasiuk and Lukez.  Matt Williams grinded out another OT win and it was great to get a strong effort at HWT from Kade Carlson.

We also had the opportunity to get the team to some DC landmarks.  What an experience!  We got a behind the scenes look at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the Caisson Platoon.  Two of our firsties on the trip, Christian Hunt and Sahm Abdulrazzaq, found out that they were branching infantry on the steps of the headquarters of the Old Guard- a pretty awesome location.

I often talk about wrestling being a means to an end, and something that opens doors for young athletes that might otherwise be closed to them.  Friday was a nice reminder of this.  These guys are a part of something bigger than themselves.

Our 3rd firstie- Paul Robinson will also branch infantry.  Congrats to all of them are in order.

Perhaps the best part of the event was looking up into the stands and seeing SO MUCH Army gear.  We had the home gym advantage on the road.  Thanks to everyone who attended.

Let’s keep that energy going.

Next up is the Penn Dual.  We hope to see a big crowd in Philly for our Friday dual at the Palestra and the Army Navy Football game.

Johnny Mac Tailgate Wristbands:  2022 Army-Navy Tailgate for Johnny Mac - Campaign

Tons going on for an Army fan this weekend, aside from the Army-navy game itself.  If you are an Army Wrestling fan the two places you have to be this weekend in Philadelphia is the Palestra for the dual Friday night and the WPWC Tailgate within the Johnny Mac Tailgate in Lot H.  The tailgate in IMPORTANT.   Those are the highlights.  More info below for those you of that like the details.  If you don't like details it'a too easy.  Step 1- buy tickets to the dual.  Step 2:  Buy Wristbands for the tailgate.  Step 3:  Be at both and have a great time.

Details:
I’d also like to make you aware of the West Point Wrestling Club tailgate prior to the ARMY/navy football game.  This is THE BEST tailgate at the stadium and supports two incredible causes – the WPWC and the Johnny Mac Foundation.  The WPWC will have our own station but a ticket to the tailgate gets you access to everything.

Tommy Hendrix ’05 (VP of WPWC) has spearheaded our partnership with Johnny Mac and has created this incredible opportunity.  Just read the details below to see for yourself.  How can you not have a good time at this tailgate?!?!  It’s important for us to show support for Johnny Mac Foundation for allowing us to be part of their larger tailgate, so if you plan to go to the game, this is a great opportunity to enjoy an amazing tailgate beforehand.

As previously discussed, this year our Army West Point Wrestling Tailgate will be a part of the larger Johnny Mac Foundation Tailgate.  The tailgate includes +30 individual stations, two bands, dedicated bathrooms, and a ton of food and beverage options.  Here is a summary list of the various stations:

- Mimosas & Oysters

- Irish Whiskey & Coffee

- Craft Beer

- Brats

- Hot Coco & Schnapps

- Breakfast Sausage

- Ice Luge Shots

- Bloody Marys

- Chili

- Pasta

- Burgers

- Tequila

- Burritos

- Cigars & Whiskey

- BBQ

- Old Fashions & Ukrainian Mules

Our station will be the wing fest — We have over 1,200 buffalo wings on order for the event.  Tickets for the event are secured by making a donation of +$100 to  Johnny Mac.  So far the organization has raised +$425,000 from this event alone with a target of $750k (last year the event raised $1M!).

For those attending the tailgate, wrist bands will be available the night before at either the Philadelphia Marriott Old City Hotel (One Dock St.) or at the pre-event happy hour at The Olde Bar (125 Walnut St.) in downtown Philly.

Finding us the day of the event should be fairly easy — the tailgate is in LOT H right across from the Xfinity Center.  Our station is on the northwest corner of the lot.  Look for the Army Wrestling Club flag flying above the large “Decisive Point” tent.
